On-Prem to GCP Migration Implementation
Customer Success Story
Introduction
This case study unveils a triumphant lift and shift migration journey, recounting the transformation of Site Impact's legacy infrastructure deployment "ECS" from On-Premises to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The migration, empowered by DevOps strategies, epitomizes modernization, scalability, and efficiency.
Challenge:
Site Impact faced operational challenges with legacy systems, necessitating modernization. Inefficiencies in scalability and maintenance propelled the pursuit of a transformative solution. To cater to clients' marketing campaigns and analytical needs, enhanced efficiency was paramount.
Solution:
The DevOps team executed a lift and shift migration leveraging Infrastructure as Code with Cloud Foundation Toolkit and Cloud Deployment Manager. Using Migrate to Virtual Machines and Migrate to Containers, they rapidly moved workloads to Compute Engine, Google Cloud VMware Engine, and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). This provided the agility and scalability they needed, while Virtual Private Cloud and Cloud Connectivity services (including Network Service Tiers, Cloud VPN, Cloud NAT, Cloud CDN, and Cloud Load Balancing) ensured secure and efficient network operations.
Execution:
The migration was executed meticulously. Persistent Disk ensured data integrity, and Cloud Storage facilitated high availability during Redis data synchronization and database cutovers. Cloud DNS streamlined name resolution, and traffic was seamlessly redirected to the new environment. Security was paramount, with Security Command Center, Cloud Key Management Services, IAM, Identity-Aware Proxy, Resource Manager, Cloud Identity, and Firewall Insights providing comprehensive protection and control. Google Cloud Observability offered real-time performance insights. Anthos provided a unified platform for managing applications across environments.
Results:
Migration's success was unequivocal. Swift response times, cost efficiency, and newfound stability characterized the ECS GCP deployment. Exceeding performance projections underscored the prowess of meticulous lift and shift execution.
Lessons & Insights:
Significant insights were gathered, elevating the DevOps team's capabilities and laying a foundation for upcoming GCP migrations.
Conclusion:
The successful migration of ECS testifies to vision, technology, and execution. Site Impact's transformed ecosystem stands poised for the future, reflecting the power of meticulous migration planning and execution.
